I just wanted to put a quick note up to let you know that I'm mostly posting to trackmytour right now. There's a link up on the top right corner.

It's been hard to write much and I like to post there because it marks where I am on the map. I'll be posting here when I have more time and more in-depth things to say.

I'm in a Yurt!

My ride today was beautiful. It was a little short and I had a hard time on some of the hills. I'm a little worried because there are three bigger hills i have to conquer tomorrow. I'll just get an early start so if I have to walk a bit I'll be ok.

I've seen a lot of raspberries. Sadly they are mostly green, as are the blueberries.

I pulled into my campground around 7p. The sign out front said the campground was full but there are almost always hiker biker sites available. More on this later. I'm having a hard time keeping up with the writing.



Anderson's Lookout

Getting a late start. I had a hard time getting out of the yurt. The very first thing I get to do is climb a big hill for 3 hours. My legs are not on board with this plan.

Day One: Morning

This should be fun. I hardly slept at all last night. I was up at 6am sorting my panniers and I think I've got everything ready to go.

Portland is wonderful. Yesterday was cloudy but today the sky is crystal clear. I had a good day yesterday, picking up my bike and riding around town.

It's late afternoon now, and I'm across the street from the Tillamook Cheese factory eating some fish-n-chips. Things were on track this morning. I had everything all packed up, had a good breakfast and dropped off my purchases to ship home. Then I went into the Whole Paycheck across the street to pick up a few last minute items. I was in there too long and ended up missing the Amtrak bus to Astoria by about 5 minutes.

There were a couple of different ways I could have gone but I ended up taking the Tillamook bus to rockaway beach. Now im riding down to cape lookout state park.

This puts me a day ahead of schedule. It's actually good. Now I can stay an extra day somewhere if I want to.

I put my bike on the train last night. If all goes well it will be waiting for me in Portland by Wednesday afternoon and I can pick it up on Thursday morning.

Thursday I'll spend the day riding around Portland. Booker and Ivy are coming down and we are going on a couple of distillery tours/tastings. Friday morning I'm hopping an Amtrak bus to Astoria. I'll get there around noon, and then my tour begins.

Almost Time to Go

Yargh. I'm leaving next Wednesday night for Portland.

I'm nowhere near as prepared as I had planned to be. I had this great training schedule that pretty much went to hell due to life happening. The good news is that I can probably do it anyway. After a couple of days one tends to get used to riding, and most of my days are only around 60 miles. The worst part will be the hills.

I plan to pack the opposite of how I packed for Juplaya. Minimal is the word. If I don't absolutely need it, it's out. I considered getting a bivy sack, but my tiny tent is pretty tiny, and that would be one more thing to buy. I have basically two outfits until I reach San Francisco. I'm shipping some clothes to the hotel so I will have something different to wear when I reach civilization.

I went for a nice long ride tonight after work. I forget how happy riding makes me until I'm out on the road. My LHT flies. I sorta wish I was doing a less hilly ride, but challenge is good, right. I checked in at the LBS to get a shorter stem for my handlebars. I shouldn't have put it off this long. The stem won't come in until Monday and I have to get my bike on the train Monday night so I can pick it up Thursday morning. The good news is I will have my bike until Sunday, so I can get lots of riding in, and maybe get around to actually moving my components around to see how they are on the top of the bars. Who knows. The riding is the thing. The riding and the packing.

And I still don't know what I'm wearing to the wedding. At least the shoes are covered.
